Archaeological documentary collection of the Riachuelo and the Matanza–Riachuelo basin
Archaeological heritage comprises movable and immovable property, as well as remains of any kind found on the surface, underground, or submerged in jurisdictional waters, that may provide information about the sociocultural groups that inhabited the country from pre-Columbian times to recent historical periods. According to National Law No. 25,743 (2003), assets from the last one hundred years from the date of their occurrence are also considered.
The scientific archive of MusA Boca brings together archaeological documentation from studies carried out in the Old City of Buenos Aires (neighborhoods of San Nicolás, La Boca, Barracas, Puerto Madero and San Telmo), as well as from 14 municipalities of the Matanza-Riachuelo basin; from the Anglican Mission National Historic Site (Ushuaia); from El Palmar National Park (Entre Ríos); and from the Martín García Island Natural Reserve and National Historic Site.
The archive, which is still being cataloged, includes documented collections of archaeological sites and materials, thousands of unique registration cards, graphic assets of the institution and archival funds of entities and companies related to the marine history of the port of Buenos Aires.
